# Sprouts

> Sprouts is a reading library for children from Roots of Reason: 1,020 readings from 40 public-domain and openly licensed sources, each with a reading level and topics, plus 148 records of works that are read at their publisher. Every reading has a plain HTML page and a Markdown twin, and neither needs JavaScript.

- [Search](https://sprout.rootsofreason.org/api/search?q=sharks): GET /api/search?q=words returns JSON, the matching readings with title, page and twin address, reading level, subjects, topics and the opening words. Optional: band (K, 1-2, 3-4, 5, 6-8, 9+), source, limit (up to 50). Every word asked for must match. It keeps no record of who asked or what.
